Gherkins

Gherkin grower Vitalijus Sidlauska started farming the gherkin five years ago after working in a Lithuanian store in Dublin. He noted that the quality of the imported vegetable was often poor and there was no one else growing them in Ireland. With that, he searched how to grow gherkins on the internet and started his own small farm in rented glass houses in Lusk, north Co. Dublin. He sells directly into the Eastern European stores. Vitalijus works from 7 am to 10 pm during the months of March to November and often covers over 30,000 steps in a day. (Vitalijus Sidlauska:0872266333) (Photo:Philip Doyle)
